I have been interested in boudoir style photography for awhile. I like how boudoir, which means, “in bed” in french, emphasizes on sensuality, but I want to do it a little different. The typical boudoir style focuses sometimes almost entirely on the body, losing connection in the face. I want to capture sensuality not only through the body, but through expression as well. I am going to call my style, intimate portraits. Lila Acuña Pryor, a 26 year old activist and Davis local, was the first client to have an intimate portrait session with David Suh Photography. We had so much fun, I want to share some highlights with all of you.

It was great getting to plan this shoot with Lila. When she came in for her consultation she shared that she was nervous, but I could tell she was excited too. It was something new for both of us. We talked a little about what the shoot would be like, and I asked her how she would like to be photographed. When we shifted to what she would be wearing I noticed her face light up. She told me about all these great pieces she wanted to pull out for the shoot. I loved hearing her go on about all the possibilities: a vintage style slip, silk blouse, striped bustier…

Day of shooting, Lila comes into the studio with her big bag of possibilities. There is almost too much to choose from. Wow! So many good pieces. Lila settled in to have her hair and make-up done. We poured her a glass of rosé and turned on some TLC, Lila’s request. Taking it back to the old school!

Look at how sexy this is. I’m crazy about how connected Lila is with the camera. It’s intense, but not harsh. It’s elegant and edgy. You would not have guessed it, but Lila said she was intimidated by close up shots. She looks amazing! The tulle adds this texture that translates beautifully on camera. It was fun seeing her swish it around. We like being creative with tulle at the studio. It is such a simple way to experiment; wrapping it around the body in different ways.
By the way, we just added more tulle to our collection. Lets just say we bought way too much at the fabric store. Like 30 yards too much. But we have a lot more colors to choose from and a lot more to play around with. I mean…a lot!

This was Lila’s favorite series. Can you tell? We used our new couch for this one. It feels so natural. It’s light, airy, and playful. This was actually our first series of photos from the day. I loved seeing Lila go for it. Her confidence radiated the room, producing absolutely gorgeous photos. It was an opportunity for her to celebrate her body, capturing those good feelings through photography.

Very grateful to Lila for giving me the opportunity to share photos from her shoot with all of you. I want this to inspire you to celebrate your body, and your spirit. Celebrate you.
