Yep. You read the title right. I’m hitting you with some weird counter logic kind of stuff this week. You’re always told why you need this and that. It’s 2019, you’ve probably been bombarded with advertisements today on why you need to buy all these life-changing products out there. So here I am hoping to bring you something refreshing by giving you 7 reasons why you shouldn’t book a portrait session with me. One of these sound right to you? There you have it, you and I won’t be a good fit.

You think there is a negative correlation between beauty and age.
“I’m too old for this.” I get this all the time. Since when did having beautiful portraits of you have an age limit? You have all the rights to feel stunning and sexy regardless of what your age is. All these years of working on you, your relationships, your success, and your character should be celebrated. You deserve to see the beautiful person in your portraits and cherish it with your loved ones. Roosevelt says it beautifully “Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, but beautiful old people are works of art.”

You think your daughter/son’s portraits are more important than yours.
Let’s face it – moms are one of the most selfless people. There isn’t a thing a mom won’t do for her children’s health and well being but at the same time it’s so easy to get into the “pour all my love and efforts into my child” mode. So moms will undoubtedly have portraits of their children to capture memories of their growth and childhood (which I 100% support) but I want to argue here that portraits of the mom are equally as important and valuable and I’ll give you two key reasons. First, if photos of children are important to document because of their growth, then should the changes a woman goes through in motherhood be documented as well? Secondly, if mom has photos of her kids to remember their childhood by shouldn’t the kids have beautiful photos of their mom?

You believe that it’s your job to be photogenic and not the photographer to do their job.
I will tell you this now; if you’ve ever seen a bad photo of you, it’s the photographer’s fault and not your’s. I’ve studied my craft of photographing women for over 7 years. Posing from your toes to lashes to flatter your body type, lighting to highlight your best sides, directing to get every emotion from you, and designing the set and colors so everything is cohesively beautiful. There’s so many more elements than even the few I listed yet we are so easily convinced that if we can’t take good photos of ourselves like Instagram models, we aren’t photogenic and worthy of photos.

You think there is one beauty standard to rule them all.
At David Suh Photography, the entire team believes in breaking through ANY beauty standards and creating an incredible set of portraits that you will fall in love with. Your happy dance over your images is all we need to see to know we did our job well.

-
Your only goal is to post these photos online.
I will never dictate for my clients what they are and aren’t to do with their images but I strive to create legacy portraits for my clients to keep for generations after generations. With that being said… if you’re coming to me for portraits to just post on social media once… we might not be a good fit.

You think getting your portraits taken is vanity.
There’s so much more to portraiture and the experience then what you might think on the surface level. Portraiture is about reconnecting with yourself, being comfortable in your own skin, seeing you in a way others see you, celebrating your accomplishments and beauty, and simply being able to feel like a queen and a supermodel at the same time for a day. So if you think someone getting their portraits done with me is vanity, I need to send you some love because that’s far from the truth.

You think you’re not worth celebrating.
You ARE worth celebrating. Whether it’s a milestone achievement like graduation or a small win like finishing everything on your daily to-do list. Get inspiration from Veronica, our beautiful makeup artist, and go all out to celebrate your 40th birthday on a unicorn.
